Canada launched a new Agri-Food Immigration Pilot

On July 12, 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a press release announcing the launch of Agri-Food Immigration Pilot aimed at attracting workers to the agri-food sector across Canada. Agri-Food Immigration Pilot is a 3-year economic immigration pilot that will fill labour shortages, particularly in meat processing and mushroom production, within the agri-food sector and help meet Canada’s ambitious export targets. This new pilot will allow agri-food sector workers to apply for a permanent residency in Canada. Employers in the agri-food sector will be eligible for a 2-year Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The application for the pilot will open in early 2020. The government has allocated 2,750 spots for this program.
