Basic requirements for family sponsorship, permanent residence.

To permanently sponsor your family, you have to meet the following criteria. You must be –

  • 18 years of age or older
  • In a sponsorship agreement with the sponsored relative where it should be written that you will provide financial support for your relative.
  • Financial support for your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner for three years from the date they become permanent residents.
  • Financial support for a dependent child for ten years or until the child turns 22, whichever comes first.

  • Common-Law Partner
  • Conjugal Partner
  • Dependent Children
  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Brothers or Sisters, Nephews or Nieces, Granddaughters or Grandsons, who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship
  • Another relative of any ties or age but only under certain conditions
  • Accompanying dependents of the above
