Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clarified that the launch date for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is not April 1. IRCC spokesperson Peter Liang said in reply to enquires that April 1 is the date that the department will have the next Ministerial Instruction issued, not the date that PGP will be reopened to accept applications. IRCC is currently developing a new intake process for the 2020 PGP, which will replace the “first come, first served” intake process. The new intake management process will ensure that all interested sponsors have the same opportunity to submit an interest to sponsor form, and a fair chance to be invited to apply.
