Basic requirements for family sponsorship, permanent residence.
To permanently sponsor your family, you have to meet the following criteria. You must be –
- 18 years of age or older
- In a sponsorship agreement with the sponsored relative where it should be written that you will provide financial support for your relative.
- Financial support for your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner for three years from the date they become permanent residents.
- Financial support for a dependent child for ten years or until the child turns 22, whichever comes first.

- Spouse
- Common-Law Partner
- Conjugal Partner
- Dependent Children
- Parents
- Grandparents
- Brothers or Sisters, Nephews or Nieces, Granddaughters or Grandsons, who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship
- Another relative of any ties or age but only under certain conditions
- Accompanying dependents of the above
