Canada Grants Extra Time for TFWP Work Permit Documentation
The Canadian immigration department has officially announced an extension to the grace period for in-Canada work permit applicants. Individuals submitting applications without a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will now have more time to secure the necessary documentation proving their employer’s efforts to hire locally.
Previously set at 60 days, the grace period has been extended to 90 days following the initial submission date. This policy adjustment provides applicants with an additional 30 days to furnish proof that their employer was unable to hire a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for the position.
This extension is designed to accommodate the challenges associated with concurrent processing within the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). By lengthening the window for providing supporting evidence, the department aims to streamline the application process for those already within the country.
